2014 CILT North West Awards for Education and Excellence

Part of the International Festival of Business being held in June and July

The North West Awards 2014 for Education and Excellence in Association with Peel Ports has moved once again and in 2014 will be embracing the new in the heart of Liverpool, having enjoyed tradition at the Midland Hotel Manchester in 2013. The awards will be held at the prestigious Titanic Liverpool Hotel, currently being developed as part of the hotel and conference centre complex at Liverpool’s Stanley Dock Village, five minutes from the city centre. The awards will be presented during a Gala Dinner on 20th June 2014, hosted by Chief Reporter of BBC North West Tonight Dave Guest, and will be a celebration of the best in the passenger and freight sectors of the transport industry.

The 2014 awards will be part of the International Festival of Business being held in June and July. This will be UK’s first ever such festival, the purpose of which is to accelerate the nation’s economic growth, deliver foreign and direct investment, and increase exports. It is an exciting convergence between innovative thinking, Government policy and our will to win, connecting the smartest entrepreneurial minds and best business opportunities in the world.

How to Enter?

To enter, nominators should supply one entry form per submission as an electronic copy with a maximum of 2,500 words per entry to be submitted via email to simon.reynish@btinternet.com who will confirm receipt electronically within 24 hours; if not, call him on 07725 070184.
Supporting material is allowed to give an illustration of the project or projects in which the nominee has been involved. For the corporate awards, supporting material is permissible, but only to explain the entry and provide amplification of the project goals and therefore must be totally relevant to the project, and entrants may be contacted for further information by the judging panel. The deadline for entries will be 17.00 hrs, Tuesday 6th May 2014, with the outcome of entries to be confirmed, by email, before end of play on Friday 9th May 2014. 

For the individual categories the judges will be looking for:
• Evidence of personal impact on task/s described
• Significant influence over business operations
• Demonstration of desire to drive their own career
• Level of innovation/desire to challenge the status quo
• Evidence of sustained success in previous roles

For the corporate awards, they will look for:
• Effectiveness and impact of output in the situation described
• Use of innovative ideas or the extension of good practice into new areas
• Success in overcoming technical challenges and other difficulties
• Its wider significance and applicability in other organisations
• Quantification of the scale/size/benefits

NB: Judges will make their decision based on the project and its benefits to your organisation.

There are six categories with 10 awards that recognise individuals and organisations that have excelled and added value or changed perceptions within the industry for the benefit of the North West Region and beyond.

Best Practise Award for Freight Logistics Sponsored by Stobart Group

For outstanding achievement in any aspect of freight transport, haulage and logistics, including operations, processes and service, in any mode or combination of modes. Entry to this award will enable organisations to showcase change management projects that have made a positive contribution to their business.

Best Practise Award for Passenger Transport Sponsored by Santander Corporate and Commercial Banking

For outstanding achievement in any aspect of passenger transport, including operations, processes and service, in any mode or combination of modes. Entry to this award will enable organisations to showcase change management projects that have made a positive contribution to the travelling public.

Award for Environmental Improvement in Freight Logistics Sponsored by Toyota Manual Handling

For outstanding achievement in the reduction of environmental impact of a freight transport operation, including: reduction in emissions, including disposal methods; improved sustainability of products or operations; and reduction in packaging or other waste, including recycling.

The Region committee is extremely grateful to all the sponsoring organisations, which will be announced over a rolling programme and has meant that ticket prices for the champagne reception, three-course meal and entertainment can be kept at £35 + VAT.
