WWL ALS and WSS hammer away at new opportunities in the Middle East

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics Abnormal Load Services in collaboration with sister company Wilhelmsen Ships Service UAE recently moved a 123 ton hydraulic hammer and accessories from Abu Dhabi to Hamburg.

The cargo consisted of 10 packages (mix of heavy lift and general cargo piece) related to pile driving accessories for onshore and offshore installation. The hydraulic hammer weighed 123 tons with dimensions of 13.96L x 2.77W x 2.94H metres, anvil of 44 tons, pile sleeve of 42 tons, power packs and other accessories.

WSS’ scope was to receive the packages on trailers from supplier’s vessel at their jetty, transport to Musaffah Port Abu Dhabi, arrange customs inspection of the materials as most of the pieces were imported on temporary basis earlier, shift the cargo under hook vessel and ocean freight to Hamburg.

Proper coordination between the loading site, transporters, customs officials, port officials and break bulk owner for timely receiving / shifting /loading of the cargo was crucial for this movement. Since the client was based in Europe, WSS teamed up with WWL ALS to pitch for the business and secure a part charter for the ocean leg back to Hamburg.

Niju John, Sales Manager Industrial and Project Cargo WSS UAE, cites: “A key advantage that Wilhelmsen has in such a situation is the ability to combine our ships agency and maritime logistics capabilities to provide a seamless solution with efficient handling for clients."

This shipment is part of a growing collaboration between WWL ALS and WSS which started in Egypt and is now spreading to other locations in Middle East & Black Sea (AMB) region with maritime logistics capability.
