Andrew Gooch, MSC UK, Senior Value Added Services Manager
What does ‘logistics’ mean to you?
Logistics for me is all about problem solving. It’s a great opportunity for us to solve challenges for our customers with the ultimate goal of helping them improve their supply chain efficiencies and enhancing their growth.
If you could change one thing about the industry, what would it be?
Paperwork! Paperless trade is an area that’s very much in the industry’s spotlight currently and one I am very passionate about. I’m fortunate to play a key role in this at MSC UK, in particular through promoting the advantages of the electronic Bill of Lading (eBL) and digital trade documentation to our customers.
What three traits define you in a professional sense?
Throughout my career, my colleagues have described me as conscientious, methodical, and approachable!
These traits are often appreciated by our customers as they know I’m always at the other end of the phone to help them find solutions to their supply chain challenges.
What’s the most important trend in the industry today?
As I can’t say paperless trade again, I‘d have to say supply chain visibility and real-time tracking by utilising IoT technology such as Smart Containers. It’s so important in our industry that customers have visibility of their cargo, as well as the right data to help them streamline decision making processes, trigger contingency plans and share important updates with their business partners and customers!
How do you define success?
I think this is best described through one of my favourite quotes from Napoleon Hill ‘The starting point of all achievement is desire’; which means if you have a strong enough ambition to achieve something, you will find success.
If you weren’t in this role, what would you be doing instead?
I’ve been a keen movie buff since I was old enough to visit the cinema, so I’d say a Film Director is certainly up there if we are talking dream jobs!
