Brigade Electronics wins award

Brigade Electronics

Brigade Electronics has been recognised as best in the Active Safety sub-category and won third prize in the Smart & Safe category at the CLEPA Innovation Awards for its CAREYE Safety Angle.

Brigade’s CAREYE uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to detect pedestrians, cyclists and objects.

According to the European Transport Safety Council, around 4,000 people die every year in truck collisions in Europe, 1,000 of whom are cyclists and pedestrians. The majority of the collisions involving HGVs and vulnerable road users occur during lorry manoeuvres or at junctions. The most serious risks come from the largest, heaviest vehicles that seat drivers high up and provide only limited direct visibility from the cab.

The system’s AI is set up to accurately evaluate video streaming from cameras fitted to the vehicle and is able to calculate the future course of motion of nearby people or objects. Combining data about a vehicle’s speed and direction, the system reliably and accurately warns the driver in real time of a possible collision before it occurs.

Warnings are issued either actively with an audible and visual red alert if a person or object is at risk of being hit, or passively with a visual yellow alert if, for example, a person or object is moving away from the danger zone – dramatically reducing false alerts.

Organised by CLEPA -The European Association of Automotive Suppliers – the awards celebrate outstanding achievements in the automotive supply industry, recognising innovation in the fields of environment, safety, connectivity, automation and cooperation.

Brigade Electronics’ Head of Marketing Simon Collinson was presented with the trophy for Innovation in the Smart & Safe Category by CLEPA Secretary General Benjamin Krieger during a ceremony held in Brussels on Thursday 13th October.

Simon Collinson said: “We are thrilled to win this award and be recognised once again by CLEPA for our contribution to improving road safety, preventing collisions and saving lives.

“This award is testament to the extensive research and tireless work carried out by our team. We are continuously looking for ways to adapt, develop and innovate products to make roads safer for everybody. Brigade’s CAREYE is at the cutting edge of commercial vehicle safety devices – we are pleased to have such a high quality and intelligent system in our product portfolio.”
