Delmar appoints Sustainability Officer

Delmar

Canada-headquartered freight forwarder Delmar International has named Laura Corrales as the organisation’s first Sustainability Officer.

The new role’s mandate is to develop, implement and promote sustainability programmes for operations in North America.

“Delmar continues to make strides in streamlining and eliminating redundancies and waste across our offices. But we also acknowledge that we can do better. It’s not just a matter of corporate responsibility; it’s a matter of preserving the planet for generations to come. The hiring of a Sustainability Officer is the first of many steps towards a more sustainable future,” said Robert Cutler, Delmar chief executive.

Corrales was most recently an account executive and sustainability consultant with UPS where she delivered a sustainability action plan for UPS sustainability corporate office.

“The plan covered how to assess, report on and manage climate risk and opportunities,” Delmar said.

Based in the Montreal, Canada head office, she will report directly to the Chief Executive.

Driving business growth and reducing overhead costs remain the top priorities of any business. Many business owners fail to connect these two functions to logistics sustainability. Usually, sustainability is applied to ensuring operations do not negatively impact the environment. However, achieving sustainability revolves around reducing, not eliminating, the causes of environment problems. Instead, a sustainable solution in the transportation industry focuses on improving individual operations and movements to increase the efficiency of transportation. Obviously, a shipper cannot actually control everything, but it can control how its companies’ products make it from location to location. Let’s take a look at how logistics sustainability lowers a company’s carbon footprint and increases customer affinity for your brand.
