Survey Highlights ICS2-ENS Compliance Gaps

In a revealing survey conducted by Trade Tech, Inc., a leading global logistics platform, significant gaps in awareness and preparedness for the impending ICS2-ENS regulations and EORI requirements have emerged. With the compliance deadline set for December 4, 2024, the survey highlights that nearly 60% of industry participants anticipate the regulations will impact their operations, yet less than half are adequately prepared.

The survey, which was available on Trade Tech’s website over the past few months, sought to assess the logistics industry’s readiness for these critical EU Customs regulations. The findings underscore an urgent call for all stakeholders involved in cargo shipments to and throughout the European Union to address compliance proactively. As regulatory frameworks tighten, the implications of non-compliance could significantly disrupt freight processes, thereby challenging the industry’s ability to operate smoothly.

Alarmingly, approximately 47% of respondents reported that they were unaware of the ICS2-ENS regulations, pointing to a substantial knowledge gap. Additionally, nearly half of those surveyed are not prepared to meet the December deadline, indicating a pressing need for immediate action. While 56.5% of respondents acknowledged awareness of the compliance timeline, a significant portion remains uninformed, which poses risks to timely adherence.

Moreover, while 58.2% of industry players understand what an EORI Number is, many are still oblivious to its critical role in EU-bound shipments. Just 47.1% recognized the necessity for EORI registration by June 1, 2024, further illustrating the challenges ahead.

Bryn Heimbeck, President and Co-Founder of Trade Tech, remarked on the findings: “It is our objective to help the industry transition to the new ICS2-ENS requirements with minimal disruption to cargo flow. Our survey reveals a clear necessity for stakeholders involved in EU trade to take swift action towards compliance, while also underscoring the urgency for more widespread education on these regulations.”

Heimbeck acknowledged a common trend within the industry where companies often delay preparations for Customs requirements, leading to increased stress during compliance surges. However, Trade Tech is positioned to assist clients effectively in navigating this transitional period.

Trade Tech’s survey serves as a timely reminder of the critical need for education and proactive measures within the logistics sector as it braces for these significant regulatory changes. The company is committed to equipping its clients with the necessary tools and resources to handle these regulatory challenges confidently and efficiently.

To further support industry stakeholders, Trade Tech has launched cargofiling.com, a dedicated platform designed to assist companies in understanding and meeting the complexities of Customs regulations, particularly the ICS2-ENS requirements. By offering expert guidance and essential tools, the website aims to help businesses prepare for the December deadline, ensuring the safe and secure movement of goods into and throughout Europe.

As the logistics industry prepares for this transformative regulatory landscape, the findings from Trade Tech’s survey underscore the importance of immediate and informed action to ensure compliance and operational readiness. Failure to prepare adequately may result in substantial disruptions, including halted shipments and potential fines, making it imperative for businesses to address these issues without delay.
