AELER unveils a shipping container in Singapore that cuts CO2 emissions by 20%

AELER

AELER, the LogTech company that’s re-inventing the container, launches its new generation container at the Singapore Maritime Week, marking the first time the Unit One container is being publicly presented in Asia. The shipping container is the building block of the global economy, transporting 80% of the world’s goods. However, it has stayed the same for 70 years, in contrast to ongoing evolutions in businesses and environments worldwide. AELER’s 20ft Unit One container is being unveiled at Sea Asia, Singapore’s anchor maritime event today. Unit One is the first transportation container made out of composite, making it stronger, better insulated and smarter.

Benefits for the environment:
1. 20% less CO2. Our container is made of composite materials, which makes it much stronger. That means we can load more into it – 28 vs 24 tonnes, so our customers need 8 AELER containers instead of 10 regular containers. This saving – when carrying bulk liquids in flexitanks – equates to a very tangible 20% CO2 saving. Also, the container’s aerodynamic exterior leads to 4% savings on fuel consumption.
2. Fewer empties. Today, 56% of all containers shipped are empty. Thanks to our Container As A Service model, we’re bringing this number down. That’s potentially a massive improvement for the environment.
3. Less waste. There can be up to 300kgs of plastic materials used inside containers to protect and isolate the goods they transport. There’s no need for these anymore with an AELER container. Its composite build ensures optimal passive insulation.

Benefits for customers:
Bulk liquids: A 17% higher payload makes it possible to load flexitanks with 28t instead of 24t without building, thanks to increased strength provided by the container’s composite walls. Sensitive goods: The containers’ structural insulation results in a significant reduction in temperature variations, reducing fitting time and costs to provide a viable alternative for specific use cases such as chemicals, luxury goods and food and beverages.
High-value goods: AELER’s proprietary IoT creates visibility with a special emphasis on security for all key stakeholders. It tells them where and ‘how’ the container and its cargo are at all times e.g. door openings and shocks are detected.
CAAS – Container As A Service
The Unit One container is available to customers via AELER’s innovative container-as-a-service (CAAS) offering. CAAS gives customers simple, flexible and worry-free access to AELER’s most advanced container worldwide. Customers can pick up their containers at one of AELER’s 50 depots and use and track them via our Control Tower platform. When finished, customers can simply return them to an AELER depot.
